UPDATES AND NOTICES
Recorder Cleaning
I know some families requested to pick up recorders today. I am not recommending students take them home at this time, but I know a lot of the students were excited to take them home. If you did take a recorder home I am suggesting that you please clean it. You can do that by placing it in the dishwasher (that is how I clean mine) or in a sink with hot soapy water. I would suggest doing this every couple of times the kids play them. At least until this COVID19 is no longer an issue.
(sorry I couldn't resist)
RECORDERS
We have begun playing our recorders so Grade 4's need to make sure that they bring their recorders back to school if they took them home at the end of the last year. This is part of the curriculum and not optional. There are a few recorders at school to purchase if your child has lost theirs.
GRADE 2 AND 4 TALENT SHOW
Dear
Auburn Bay Families,
I
am so excited to announce the Fourth Annual Auburn Bay School Talent Show. We have so many talented students so let’s
get out there and share it with each other. Because of all the talent at our
school we are splitting the talent show into two different events. This upcoming talent show on Wednesday, February
@ 1:00 pm will be for the grade 2 and
4’s ONLY. Everyone is super
excited to share all of their talents with their peers, they have been asking
since the first day of school. The grade
1 and 3 talent show will be later in the year in June.
I
will be holding mini talent shows
during music class the week of
February 3 – 7th .
Exact dates and times of your students can be found on your child’s
classroom blog as well as the music blog.
From these mini talent shows we will choose some students to perform in
a larger talent show in front of the entire school. You will be informed with a
note from Mrs. Bourgeois if your child has been chosen for the large talent
show.
Performers
must have their costumes, props, music etc. at school the date of their mini
talent show. There will only be one music class set aside for each class for
the mini talent shows so all materials MUST be at school that day, we will not
have make up days. If your student
requires music you will need to send in a labeled USB, music link to Mrs.
Bourgeois, iPOD or labelled CD.
The
mini talent shows will be for students who have practiced and have a polished
performance. This is not a time for making things up on the spot or
improvising.
Things
that can be considered for the talent show (but not limited to):
- Gymnastics routine
- Dance routine
- Martial Arts
routine: but has to be a choreographed/pre planned routine
- Playing an
instrument: practiced piece (no improvisation or making it up as they go
and also no songs that have been played in class)
- Comedy: has to be
appropriate jokes and must be funny and practiced
- Singing with or
without music but the music has to be played quietly and the child has to
really know the words...no sing alongs!
Instrumental only is preferable.
- Made up song or
rap
- Dramatic reading
- If you have some
children who are very artistic and would like to bring in a piece
of art work that was done at home, they may do that J.
We will put up a few easels in the hub. They must have a write up describing
what the pictures is about and the techniques, materials they used.
Auburn
Bay is a large school with many talented students and so not everyone
will be able to perform in the large talent show. The mini talent shows will allow every
student to showcase their talent to a peer group. Please ensure you have a
conversation with your child so they are aware that not everyone will be
performing in the large talent show. I
will also be having a conversation with every student around this as well.
I
am very excited to see and hear all the performances. If you have any questions please feel free to
email me hmbourgeois@cbe.ab.ca
Sincerely,
Mrs.
H Bourgeois

Recorder Letter and Order Form
(please see clarification on the bottom for cost)
Dear parents, January 15, 2020
The grade
3 and 4 students will be learning to play the recorder after the family day
weekend as part of our music classes.
This will be ongoing until the end of the year, so the students will
need to have their recorders at school everyday.
In
order to ensure uniform fingering and tuning, every child must purchase their recorder
through me. Not all recorders have the
quality, tuning, and correct fingering required for music class. Each
child will purchase a recorder and student book (which comes with a CD) to use
in Music classes and practice with at home.
A total of $10.00 for a quality recorder, book and
a CD is a steal of a deal! If
taken care of, their original recorder should last for many years to come.
If your child already has a recorder at home, please have
him/her bring it for me to do a sound check. Dollar store recorders are not
acceptable. All the students must play on an English/Baroque Soprano Recorder.
Please return all money and forms by Thursday, January 30th,
2020. Please note that this fee will
not be on your MyCBE/Powerschool account. You must pay by cash or cheque. If
you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at hmbourgeois@cbe.ab.ca
Sincerely,
Mrs. H. Bourgeois

Grade 3 Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Field Trip
Wednesday, November 13th
Notices came home last week. If you have not yet done so please make sure that you make your payments and return the permission forms ASAP. Please see below for information.
The grade 3 students will be going on a field trip to the Jack Singer Concert Hall on Wednesday, November 13th. We
will be leaving the school at 9:00am and departing The Jack Singer Concert Hall
at 11:20am. The students will be
transported for the activity by bus provided by Southland Transportation.
Students will be watching watch the CPO’s performance of
“Haydn and the Symphony”. As part of the music program we encourage creative
expression through performance and listening.
As students become sensitive to the expressive elements of music they
develop insight into human feelings. Also we continue to build our audience
manners and expectations.
Please fill out the Acknowledgement of Risk and
Medical Information forms and return them to the school, along with the cost of
the trip, which is $ 20.00 per
student. This fee will cover the cost of
transportation to The Jack Singer, as well as the price of the program for each
student. Payments are to be made directly on your My CBE/Powerschool Account by Wednesday, November 6th.
Additional information about parent
permission is available on the CBE website at: http://www.cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/Pages/Field-Trips.aspx

HANDCHIME CHOIR AUDITIONS COMPLETE

All the interested grade 4's have completed the auditions to possibly become a member of the Handchime choir. There was an overwhelming interest in the group so I will be creating 2 groups (October-December, May-June). I will be looking at the results from the auditions and creating groups then emailing parents, within the week, to inform them of which group your child is in. All the students did a fantastic job and I am excited for the upcoming Handchime season. The first rehearsal is next week Thursday, October 10th.

Dear
Parents and Guardians,
With
our fourth year in our beautiful school I am so very excited to get some of our extra curricular performing groups up and running. The students have been asking since the first day and are also excited to get working. I have chosen so fun, challenging and exciting music for us to perform. Below are the links to the two different performing groups. The are for grade 3/4 (Senior Choir) and Grade 4 (Handchimes). Please read through the permission forms and chat with your child about the commitment that each group requires. I am excited to see all the enthusiastic musicians in my room. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
Musically Yours,
